History of the Mary Chilton DAR
Chapter:
Chapter Motto: "Virtue, not ancestry, makes one noble."
Mary Chilton Chapter, NSDAR, Sioux Falls, South Dakota,
was organized June 17, 1915, Chartered June 10, 1916, and
Incorporated November 20, 1957. The chapter is named for
Mary Chilton, the first woman to step ashore off the
Mayflower in Plymouth Harbor, MA, in 1620. From the
beginning of the Chapter's history, its efforts to represent
the best of NSDAR were centered around the three
objectives of the Daughters: education, promotion of
patriotism, and historical preservation.
